With 'functions' in Eitje, you can clearly display what each team member is capable of. You can also use these functions when creating schedules, so you know who is able to work specific shifts. Read more here about using functions in the planning.
What are functions?
Each function in Eitje is build up of components. Each component can be assigned to individual team members. Only when a team member has all components, it will have the function assigned. Therefore, a function cannot work without components.
You can also add a function to a shift, so you know only specific team members can be scheduled for that shift.
Components are things like skills team members are capable of.
➡️ Example: Check cash register / Mix cocktails / Set up clocking system / Turn off alarm system / Clean toilets
Functions are a combination of components that a team member masters. You can assign a function to both shifts and team members.
➡️ Example: Shift leader / Bartender / Manager / Opener
Example: To obtain the function 'Close' you need to possess the following skills:
Clean toilets / Close till / Restock fridge / Turn off and clean coffee machine

In case this function is only for one or several specific teams within the organisation, you can activate this and select the team(s).
Click 'Save'.
Create a component
At the top, use 'Knowledge' to open the 'Functions' page.
On top, click '+Function component'.
Enter a short description as a name.
Select which function this component is part of.
Click 'Save'.
Connect component to a function
If an existing component can also be used for other functions, there is no need to create a duplicate. You can connect components to multiple functions.
At the top, use 'Knowledge' to open the 'Functions' page.
Click the function you want to add components to.
Choose 'New component'.
Simply click to select the component. The list will remain open so you can select another component to add to the function.
⚠️ Note: If a function exists without any components, it cannot be assigned to a team member. Therefore, a function always needs at least one component.
💡 Tip: If your function is just one specific skill or item, for example 'First aider' or 'Driver's license', you can create a function with a component that has the same name.
