πŸ†• Guide: Team member - Swap shifts with others

In Eitje, you can 'trade' (swap) shifts with others in case you've been scheduled to work but you're not available. This article explains how to do it.

Updated over a month ago

⚠️ This guide applies to the new Eitje app, released in November 2025. Looking for the guide to the previous app? Click here.

Would you like to trade shifts with someone? Or are you looking for someone who can take over your shift? This is how it works:

  1. Go to 'Shifts' (clock icon, bottom left).

  2. Open the shift you want to swap.

  3. Choose 'Trade my shift'

  4. Now pick either 1️⃣ 'Search for replacement' or 2️⃣ 'Trade my shift'. Both options are explained below.

1️⃣ Search for replacement

Choose this option to find out if any of your teammates are available and willing to take over your shift. You can select the team members you want to ask. If they've already been scheduled that day, or are off sick or on leave, they won't show as an option.

2️⃣ Trade my shift

When you go for this option, you can see which shifts are available to swap with. In this way, you only need to deal with one colleague. This is specifically useful if you've already discussed it with that person.

Keep in mind that you can only swap a shift if:

  • You are in the same team that this shift is scheduled for.

  • The other person has the same function, if applicable for this shift.

  • The other person has not yet been scheduled during those hours.

⚠️ Note: If you and your colleague have both accepted the trade request, it is possible that your manager still needs to approve it.

Other options

In the menu in the bottom right corner of the app, you find the section 'Trade and pick up' with two options:

  • Pick up shift
If a colleague wants to swap a shift with you, you will find their request here. The shift won't be swapped on the schedule until you accept. After accepting, it could be that a manager still needs to approve.

  • My current requests

Here you find an overview of your requests, to see whether it's been approved or not.
